100cm x 100cm | Mixed Media on Canvas
Part of a series exploring reinterpretations of iconic artworks from art history.
In this piece, Leah Justyce reimagines the surreal landscape made famous by Salvador Dalí’s The Persistence of Memory, translating the dreamlike scene through her own expressive visual language. Melting clocks remain suspended in a shifting landscape, while soft florals and atmospheric colour fields introduce new emotional layers to the composition.
Where Dalí’s original explored the fluid nature of time, this reinterpretation introduces themes of memory, beauty and personal reflection. Roses frame the dreamscape, creating a symbolic contrast between permanence and the fleeting passage of moments.
Justyce’s process is intentionally intuitive. Rather than planning compositions, she approaches the canvas guided by instinct and feeling, allowing cultural memory and personal symbolism to merge naturally during the act of painting.
The result is a work that exists between homage and transformation — a familiar image seen through a contemporary emotional lens.
