The Human Condition
A Collection by Leah Justyce
The Human Condition is an exploration of identity, vulnerability, rebellion and love — the emotional forces that shape the experience of being alive.
Across this series, Leah Justyce presents a body of work that moves between expressive portraiture, symbolic imagery and bold contemporary mark-making. Each painting acts as a fragment of a larger psychological narrative, inviting the viewer to reflect on the complexity of human existence.
Faces emerge through gestural brushstrokes, drips of paint interrupt compositions, and symbols of love, resilience and identity appear repeatedly throughout the works. These elements are not accidental — they reflect the unpredictability of human emotion itself.
Justyce’s practice embraces instinct and raw expression. Rather than striving for polished perfection, the works retain visible traces of the artist’s hand: dripping paint, layered textures and spontaneous lines that capture the immediacy of feeling.
Within the exhibition, a diverse cast of figures appears — cultural icons, historical symbols and anonymous faces. Each one represents a different facet of humanity: strength, defiance, introspection, memory, tenderness and connection.
Recurring motifs such as flowers, hearts and bold typography operate as emotional markers throughout the series. They shift between beauty and chaos, mirroring the way love, identity and experience intertwine within every human life.
While each painting stands independently, together they form a larger conversation about what it means to exist, to feel, and to endure.
At its core, The Human Condition is not simply about portraiture. It is about the invisible emotional landscapes that every person carries — the stories beneath the surface that connect us all.
Through colour, gesture and symbol, Leah Justyce invites the viewer into that shared experience.
