  • Hand stitching and slow stitch techniques for wellbeing and artistry

  • Upcycling and reusing pre-loved materials for sustainable creation

Experience & Background

Catherine has been working with textiles since her teenage years. In the 1990s, she ran her own shop in Fitzroy, Melbourne, before transitioning into a long and meaningful career in midwifery. Returning to her creative roots, she now works with textiles full-time.

She is currently mentoring artists in a remote Torres Strait Island art centre to create a small fashion range, which will debut at the Indigenous art fairs in 2026. Catherine’s body of work includes soft sculpture jewellery, wearable art, tote bags, wall hangings, and sustainable clothing created from recycled and pre-loved materials.

With over a decade of experience teaching at university level and facilitating community workshops for culturally diverse women, Catherine brings strong educational expertise to her mentoring practice.

Working With Diverse Abilities

Catherine has completed training in trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practice. Her mentoring approach is person-centred, inclusive, and adaptable — ensuring each participant’s individual needs and creative goals are met with care and respect.

She creates a supportive environment where participants can explore their creativity at their own pace, build confidence, and develop skills that empower both personal and professional growth.

Mentor Approach & Philosophy

“I believe sewing and slow stitching are powerful forms of storytelling and connection. Working with our hands helps us slow down, breathe, and find meaning in the materials and moments around us.”

Catherine’s mentoring style is intuitive, flexible, and deeply human. She works collaboratively with participants to nurture creative confidence while encouraging a sustainable, mindful approach to making art.
